I came across an insane mansion the other day on social media and it blew my mind, so I wanted to write a blog about it.
I present Villa Leopolda, one of the most expensive mansions in the world. It is located in French Rivera and was originally built for King Leopold II of Belgium. It has massive gardens that take many gardeners to be able to maintain. It overlooks the Mediterranean Sea which makes it have a great view and doubles up the prices. It feels like a palace, not a house. During World War I, it was used as a military hospital, and was later owned by the Agnelli family (owners of Fiat). It became famous again in the 2000s because of its extremely high estimated value.
On the architectural scale, it is around 50,00l square feet and sits on nearly 18 acres of land. The gardens alone are larger than many neighborhoods which attracts peoples attention. It has multiple terraces stepping down toward the sea which creates a dreamy fairytale look. The gardens require many full-time gardeners (think how big it is) and includes olive trees, lemon trees, cypress trees and large lawns. It is designed to frame the Mediterranean views and it blends classical European villa style with dramatic coastal positioning.
I think that the Villa Leopolda is impressive but can also be overwhelming. It looks like it is made for a queen and king to live a fairytale-like life and it is absolutely magnificent but I think it is more about wealth than comfort. To start off, the garden being that big is so inefficient due to the gardening fees and how hard it is to look after. It is elegant, but also excessive. I personally prefer luxury that feels intentional and balanced, not overwhelming or unattainable. It is extremely large and requires an unreal amount of both money and effort.

Loved every bit of this. Really well done!
