This structure really caught my eye while I was going through some buildings of Jean Nouvel. The way how the shape looks from the sides are fascinating and really eye catching indeed. However in my opinion, it looks off from the top. When looked from top, it looks like a couple of blades fell on top of each other while constructing and ruins the aesthetic. So in my opinion, working on one area rather than spreading out would be more efficient and aesthetically pleasing. Additionally, if I were to rebuild this I would make it wide but in one piece. Not too tall, not patchy, more symmetrical and grounded. However there are also things that I love about this design.
The building is very bold and different. It does not try to look simple — it stands out. The overlapping shapes create strong shadows, which is smart because Qatar has very strong sunlight. As the sun moves, the building looks different during the day.
I also like that the design is inspired by the desert rose crystal. This makes the building meaningful and connected to its location. Even though I don’t fully like the top view, I respect the idea behind it.
Overall, the Museum of Qatar is unique and eye-catching. It may not be perfect in my opinion, but it is powerful and unforgettable.
